Today August 31st 2018, the following letter will be sent to all Rhodesian Ridgeback Clubs worldwide in an effort to show a united front against the splitting of our breed in varieties:
Dear Ridgeback Club Officer(s):
As you might be aware, the FCI has proposed establishing a ridgeless variety of the Rhodesian Ridgeback.
In response to this, the Rhodesian Ridgeback World Congress Health Committee, along with input from Ridgeback fanciers and judges from Europe, Australia and United States, has drafted an open letter to the FCI expressing our opposition to this proposal. We acknowledge that there are differing opinions about what dogs constitute appropriate breeding stock, we believe that no Rhodesian Ridgeback club wishes to see the establishment of a ridgeless variety.
We respectfully request that within the seven days, your club’s officers vote on adding your club’s name to a list of Ridgeback clubs around the world that OPPOSE the splitting of our breed in the creation of a ridgeless variety. Please, time is of the essence: No matter where you live in the world, we are relying on your love of our breed to take a united stand on this fundamental and unwelcome change to our breed standard.
The statement to which your club’s name will be affixed will read, simply:
We, the undersigned Rhodesian Ridgeback clubs, formally and in the strongest possible terms oppose the creation of a ridgeless variety in FCI.
Again, please note that we are not asking your club to take a position on the breeding of ridgeless dogs: We are asking you to please stand with us to oppose the creation of an official ridgeless variety
